Gerald Hardy Memorial Society (GHMS) Summer Job Posting
Summer Student Assistant Position
The Summer Student Assistant reports to the Executive Director of the GHMS and works in collaboration with the ED and other staff to fulfill the society’s objectives to provide community support, education and vocational training for people living with varying levels of disability, to facilitate day programming to enhance life skills and job readiness, to offer services that provide inclusion through supported job placement, work contracts, community projects, fundraising and participation in community events. Social and workplace skills are developed through operation of, but not limited to, the Cascades Thrift Shop, the Online Auction, Rainbow Food Bank (RFB) and other activities.
Duties/ Responsibilities

Provide a supporting role in fulfilling the objectives of the society

Assist with daily operations of our Cascades Thrift Shop, On-line Auction and Rainbow Foodbank

Sorting and pricing donations into the appropriate categories

Assist with keeping the Thrift Shop tidy and well organized

Assist with some operations of our Rainbow Foodbank, such as unloading and unpacking deliveries from Feed Nova Scotia, stocking shelves, and preparing food hampers

Help to keep GHMS a clean and safe environment for all
Qualifications
-
Must be at least 15 years of age and not over 30 years of age, as required by our funding

Must currently be enrolled in an educational program, as required by our funding
-
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
-
Excellent organizational skillsCurrent computer and social media skills
-
Experience with individuals of varying abilities is an asset
-
Knowledge of developmental and/or physical disabilities and mental health concerns is an asset
-
Sensitivity to issues encountered by people facing barriers to employment and community involvement
-
Experience with retail and customer service or equivalent an asset
-
References required and able to pass criminal records/ vulnerable sector check Must be available to work Saturdays on a shared working schedule
Personal Characteristics

Must be physically able to safely lift and move objects using proper lifting techniques

Must be versatile, able to quickly adapt to changing work environment

Behave ethically; ensuring personal behavior aligns with the values of the society
Wage/ Hours35 hours per week / $16.00 hour
